Karuna College of Nursing is a self financing institution under the Management of Safe Development Alms Trust with its head quarters at Karuna Hospital, Melamuri, Palakkad. The guiding principle of the Institution is the quote "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me" and its primary objectives are to provide "Health for all" and "Service to Humanity" by creating dedicated Health Professionals. We believe that the human beings are holistic and integrated. Each human being has dignity, basic rights and responsibilities, individual needs and unique internal environment. The client is the human recipient of care - individual, family, group or community. Health is viewed as a dynamic state of physical, social and spiritual wellbeing that maximizes the individual's ability to function in his or her environment. Illness is an alteration is the dynamic state of wellbeing that leads to disharmony between the human self and environment, Health promotion, illness prevention, maintenance and rehabilitation are facilitated by activities of or programs directed toward enhancement, stabilization or restoration of a dynamic state of wellbeing.

Nursing is a caring, creative, dynamic and interactive process that uses scientific and humanistic bodies of knowledge to assist the client in attainment of a dynamic state of well being with a focus on human responses to actual or potential health problems.

Nursing contributes to the health services in a vital and significant way in the health care delivery system. It recognizes National health goals and is committed to participate in the implementation of National Health Policies and Programmes. It aims at identifying health needs of the people, planning and providing quality care in collaboration with other health professionals and community groups.

Scope of nursing practice, encompasses provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care to people across 5their life span in wide variety of health care settings. Practice of Nursing is based upon application of basic concepts and principles derived from the physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine and Nursing.

Under graduate Nursing programme is broad based education within an academic frame work specifically directed to the development of critical thinking skills, competencies and standards required for practice of professional Nursing and Midwifery envisaged in National health Policy 2002.

The teachers have the responsibility to be role models and create learning environment that enables students to acquire inquiry driven, self directed learning and foster an attitude of lifelong learning.

Under graduate Nursing education program prepare its graduates to become exemplary citizen by adhering to code of ethics and Professional conduct at all times in fulfilling personal, social and professional obligations so as to respond to National aspirations.
